Ep 1-10

Boobies Girls

     The first episode of this anime tells very little about what this anime is actually about.  You learn a little bit in the opening theme that the main character (Dandy) is traveling space with his robot friend/sidekick to discover new alien species but everything that is going on in the background (and there is a lot) is left in shrouds.  He also contemplates deeply the value of the female ass over the breast, which he quickly dismisses later at a space bar called "Boobies"(left).  This is deepest level of thought you'll see in the first episode.  

Meow

There is a short but entertaining chase to capture an alien cat (right) and some highly enjoyable animation on an alien planet at the end of the episode just before everyone blows up and dies.  The art style likes to jump from crisp clean cut to something akin it paint splattering but overall I gotta say its pleasing to the eye in the sense that it is not visually boring.  

Dr. Gel of the Gogle Empire

   In episode two everyone is back and completely unscathed which for a shower that was very self aware in the first ep. its odd they don't reference this at all.  The search for some legendary ramen while an evil gorilla with a white judge wig and a wizard staff (left) is hunting them down by way of a twitter-esk account. 

Scarlet

 During this episode we encounter more random aliens, a flaming skull warlord, and a possible love interest via a red hair kungfu vixen.(right)

  The final few minutes when they find the old alien who makes ramen is surprisingly well done, but much like the first episode the story is all over the board.  I feel like someone is trying to match the fast pace of shows like 'Kill La Kill', 'Gurren Lagann' or 'Fooly Cooly', but can't figure out how to make the story flow as well.  If they can just take a deep breath and spend five extra minutes organizing their thoughts I think they may have a decent show that's more than boarder line chaos.  Future episodes shall tell.

Boobies Card

Episode Three Dandy is failing to bring back any new aliens worth money.  After getting sick on expired bargain-brand space food Dandy calls on his emergency Boobies card(left), which has enough credit for a free visit to Boobies.  After realizing the card is going to expire in only a few hours Dandy recklessly, randomly, and repeatedly hits the hyper-drive button and shoots off into space landing on a strange planet.  Quickly they encounter a space babe called Mamitas (right) who is being chased by alien monsters.

 Dandy(who is an appallingly bad shot with a gun) helps her escape and a plan is formed to try to get parts from her wrecked ship to fix theirs.  Dr Gel makes a short but meaningful appearance by first letting the audience in on some of the main plot!  Dandy is the only thing stopping the google empire from taking over space, AND Mamitas is actually a monster so scary that the seventh fleet retreats from attacking Dandy.  After speaking to the local aliens with a universal communicator (so can all monster talk when he activates this?)

Alien VS Robot

Dandy is let in on the true identity of Mamitas.  In her attempt to devour Meow Mamitas changes into her true shape showing a great many pair of breastesesessess; nips and all.  (yay for not censoring!)  Dandy leaves meow to his fate until QT reminds him that Meow was holding the Boobies card.  Dandy flys back for him in a mini space ship that, totally random, transforms into a hand to hand combat robot warrior.(left)  The animation in this fight is enjoyable and at the end of the episode Dandy turns the defeated/food poisoned Alien in for some sorely needed cash.  Meow seems to be dead.

Stiltonian

Meow is back (as predicted) in Episode four.  The trio are trying to figure out if the alien they have just recently caught is a Stiltonian or not.  They are unsure do to the discoloration and slow moving features of the creature.  During this Meow is bitten on the arm by the alien and he quickly begins to display signs of ill health.  After taking him to the hospital and failing to hook up with sexy elfish nurses Dandy and QT leave Meow for the night.

 When they return the entire hospital is a grim scene from The Walking Dead.  Even the elite fighters of the Gogle empire are over run by the massive number of Zombies inside the hospital.   After a futile effort Dandy and QT are both turned into Zombies and begin to find ways of coping with their new lifestyle.  They look for advice from Stiltonian Zombie Sempi on ways to live and adhere to his words of wisdom.  They Also figure out that they can cash in on life insurance since they are technically dead.  In response the insurance companies hire snipers to take out as many zombies as possible to prevent this from happening; but eventually they too are turned into zombies.  With the threat of snipers neutralized and every last robot and organism turned zed the zombie race lives a life of peace and equality.  Side note - is Meow a play on Meowth from Pokemon?

Adelie

Got to admit, I liked Episode five.  I think I've come to terms with the lack of central plot and can just enjoy the show for what it is now.  Dandy goes after a high priced alien called a Gentooan who can transfer the consciousness of one person into a stuffed animal she caries around.  This effect last 666 seconds and can only be done once a day.  While Capturing the Gentooan Dandy is switched with the stuffed animal, but since Dandy doesn't sweat the small stuff he still manages to capture the Gentooan named Adelie(left).  Dandy takes her back to his ship -the Aloha Oe to find out it has been towed(QT and Meow are useless), he now needs to take public transportation to get to the registration center so he can get the money to get his ship back.  Adelie agrees to get registered but with the condition that they stop to see her grandpa first.  Since she will kick and scream in public if Dandy refuses he agrees.

A good series of interactions follows for the remainder of the episode between these two getting closer with each other(right).  Its an old premise but they did it right, much like they did the scene with the old alien right in episode 2.  Dandy actually shows that he has a heart by helping her finding her grandpa and after a small fight at a train station with some thugs he leaves Adelie with her grandpa.  Adelie is so touched that she announces she will join Dandy's crew when she is old enough.

Red Pant and Blue Vest

In Episode six we find out that Dandy is surfer, but refuses to surf anything that doesn't send his heart aflutter.  They continue their journey to Eden, a planet ravaged by 10,000 years of war by  red underwear guys and  blue vest guys(right).  After the Aloha crashes Dandy is captured by the last remaining red guy and Meow is caught by the last blue guy.

Some pointless fighting takes place but after a while Dandy and Meow convince the two aliens to sign a peace treaty.  However, negotiations break apart when they exchange clothing and end up killing each other.  What was funny about this part was when Meow, in an effort to support his fellow vest wearer, attacks Dandy(left).  Meow's loyalty quick turns I guess.  The red/blue aliens release bombs with their final breath and blow up the planet.  QT saves himself leaving his friends for dead saying "I will never forget you, I hope your soul crosses over in peace." As the plant explodes a giant sand geyser launches Dandy and Meow into the air.  QT tosses Dandy his surf board and a nicely animation surf scene ends the episode.  The conflict of the red/blue aliens is a classic one, I think Air-Bender had one just like it..  I wonder what other old story archetypes this series shall revisit - I like Space Dandy's take on them so far.  Amen and Namu Amida

Space Surfing

Episode seven is a simple episode, the classic space race para-dime.  Its been a while since Cowboy Bebop but I think they did one of these as well.  No space anime is complete without one I guess.

Dandy is enraged when a man known as prince enters Boobies and gets all the attention from the lovely luscious ladies.(left)  Prince is a top space racer and Dandy vows to beat him at his own game and enters the race himself.  A rather funny aspect of his rivalry with Prince is that Prince also has a robot and an animal partner who seem to be much more useful than Dandy's.  A few random characters from the series show up during the race like Honey and Dr. Gel but nothing really comes of it.

It isn't until the very end of the race when Dandy and Prince are neck and neck with each other that Prince realizes that he may in fact be in love with this rival who has pushed him so far.  Just as he is coming to terms with his new found feelings of romance Dandy plows into him from behind at the seventh space velocity(right).  Another explosion occurs (just 1 of many during the race) and excellent Dandy to a speed never reached before.

 Prince looks around for his missing love but fails to find him so Dandy has been pushed through space and time 5.67 billion years into the future.  While wondering around in this new era of time Dandy happens upon a giant gold statue with his hair(left).  Dandy breaths his own name and the episode ends.  Don't worry people, everything will be as if this never happened in the next episode because that is how a Space Dandy do.

In Episode Eight we spend the beginning with Dr. Gel and Bea.  Bea is showing off the new system that he installed into the ship.  It works like a DJ scratching a record(right) and is capable of tracking Dandy anywhere is space.  They quickly locate him and Dr.Gel and Bea warp into hyper-drive to catch him.  As this takes place Dandy is on a dumpy planet full of scrap metal.  

PUP

He befriends a dog (left/below) that he names Precious Upside-down coconut Pie (P.U.P.)  She is hesitant at first but is thrilled to make friends after being alone for so long.  Sadly however, today is the last day of her life.  After a fun filled time of living like a well loved family dog she thanks them for playing with her and puts her head down.  The air leaves PUP's lungs along with her spirit and she passes.  A well animated seen that took note of the little details to really pull you into the moment. As they proceed with the funeral the narrator explains that this may have been the dog known as Laika that was on the USSR's Sputnik 2.

 While on the planet there are two moments where they cut away to two brothers with human heads and green bodies.  These turn out to be some sort of space fleas.  When PUP passes Meow presses himself against her and morns her passing.  The fleas take this chance to jump from the dog to Meow.  

Back on board the Aloha-Oi Meow is struck by an intense itch and the fleas, overcome by Meow's body odor, jump off from him.  QT and Meow chase the two aliens, but they escape onto Dandy.  Fresh from the shower Dandy combs his hair and coats it with gel.  One of the aliens is killed by Dandy's hair styling and the other alien jumps into QT.  Quickly QT's mind is taken over by the flea, and he attacks Dandy and Meow in the name of revenge for his brother.  

Escaping the planet

Dandy throws a beer at QT and the following electrical shock that comes expels the flea from QT's body.  Once out Dandy and Meow try to kill the flew before he can get into the controls of the ship.  QT calls out to them to stop because he's figured out that the flea is the only thing that is holding the planet together.  (Don't worry, its not suppose to make sense.)  Just as QT explains this Dandy squishes the last flea with his foot and the world begins to collapse.  They warp out of the area just as Dr. Gel warps in.  Dr.Gel's S&M statue-of-liberty ship is pulled into the black hole of the planet. (he'll be back.)

Episode nine.  They are on the trail of Alien D, in hopes of getting an unknown alien species registered.  QT sends them down onto planet Planta (right)with a teleporter but the teleporter isn't very accurate and sends Meow and Dandy into different locations.  Things get weird at this point so I'm going to skip most of the middle, the more detail I put into this part the more confusing the blog would become.

Meow is dropped off near aliens that are some sort of bacteria, and they start to feed him so he'll get fat and they can eat him.  Dandy is found and brought to a giant plant called Dr. H (below)and his daughter 033H.  Eventually Dr. H learns that Dandy is after Alien D and decids to help him get north to where Alien D is said to live.  On the way they are stopped by a giant caterpillar and bacteria (I guess) and detained for a short while, but later on escape and continue their journey.
As they near Alien D Dr. H explains how Alien D emits powerful smells that cause all plant life to grow at a rapid rate so the larger Dr. H can't get any closer but Dandy and 033H continues on.  At the heart of the structure that Alien D lies in (below)  033H grows to big to move on any more and is in danger of being crushed within a small space, sorta like that one chick in Akira.  Remember that?  *Splat!*

Dandy finds Alien D and it is actually an asteroid, not an alien.  With vigor Dandy begins to break to the cords that hold Alien D in place but then suddenly Alien D is sucked into the heart of the planet.  With Alien D sealed away Dr. H and 033H shrink back down into normal plants.  Dr. H with heir of a wise old sage tells Dandy that this is not the end but a new beginning.  You know if someone took away civilization on earth we would call him a bad guy but the plants didn't really seem to mind that much, to each their own I guess.

in Episode 10 of Space Dandy, the great war between Gogol Empire and Jaicro Empire rages on.  During the heat of battle a great mass of pure energy was unleashed and found its way to the calendar at Meow's parent's house.  The energy fuses with the calendar causing time to repeat itself on the date that the calendar shows.  It takes a long time for everyone to realize what's happening and they repeat the same day many times.

Yes.  She's a lesbian

Eventually they realize what is going on, but can't find the cause of it.  In the style of Bill Murray in Groundhog's Day Meow tries to live each repeating day as best as he can.  Working with his dad in the metal shop, and even catching the glass of that lesbian girl he likes.  After hearing some of Meow's old friends rap a jingle for a search engine they try posting the question on a forum.  "Tomorrow won't come, what should I do."  After someone suggest they peal the page off the calender they realize that the calender is in fact the source of the problem.  It puts up a good fight and won't let them tear off the page, but Meow's dad comes to the rescue when he uses some power tools to remove the page.

The page floats up into the air and vanishes.  The cycle is broken and tomorrow finally comes.  They say their good byes and shoot off into space grateful that a new, fresh day of unknown possibilities awaits them.  However they quickly fall back into a dull routine of laziness.
